Using the Calculator To use the smoking pack years calculator enter a value for each of the types of tobacco smoked and the period of years over which the quantity you have entered was smoked.
Once you have entered all the values click the Calculate button to calculate the total smoking load and the pack years value.
Once the calculation has been made you can either amend the numbers you have entered or click the Reset button to reset the calculator.
Cigarettes are duplicated on the calculator to allow for the different number of cigarettes someone may have smoked over their lifetime. For example one person may have smoked 10 cigarettes a day for 5 years, then 20 cigarettes a day for 20 years.
Please note that whilst most of the values should be specified as number smoked per day, tobacco should be specified as amount smoked per week.
